Over 1.63 million Americans reside in 18,000 nursing homes.
These numbers will increase steadily to an unprecedented
growth.  The baby boomers generation is reaching its peak, the
estimated number of adults aged 65 years and above will reach
71 million in the year 2030, accounting for 20% of nation’s
population.  Health care spending for this population will
increase by 25%, with Medicaid expenditures expected to grow
at a rate of 9% yearly to reach $136.5 billion in 2017.

The current registered nurse vacancy rate is 6%, and it is
expected to reach 40% in 2010 to 2030. Unfortunately, in one
day of care (24 hours), registered nurses spend 0.5 hour,
licensed practical nurse spend 0.7 hour, and certified nursing
assistants spend 2 hours caring for a patient. Nursing homes
suffer from very high staff turnover rates, and in some nursing
home the  turnover can go up to 100% a year.
